Steps to Add a PTR Record via the Client Portal
  • Reverse DNS (RDNS), also known as a PTR record, maps your server's IP address to a hostname.
  • To configure RDNS, you must have a VPS or dedicated server hosted with HostAfrica.
  • A correctly configured RDNS record improves your server's reputation and helps ensure emails are delivered successfully instead of being marked as spam.
Log In to the HOSTAFRICA Client Panel
Go to: Login - HOSTAFRICA
Use your client account credentials to log in.

Navigate to Your Services

  • Click on Your Service, for example, 'Virtual Private Server'

(You can also click Manage under Quick Actions)

    • On the new page, locate your server/VPS from the list and click  “Manage” beside it.
    Manage Reverse DNS (PTR)
    • On the service management page, look for the option “Manage Reverse DNS” in the sidebar or under the server management actions.
    • Click on it to proceed.

    Add PTR Record

    • Click “Add PTR”.

      • From the dropdown, select the IP address or server you wish to configure the RDNS for.
      • Enter the hostname you would like to map to the IP (e.g., my.testmail.com).
      • Click “Add” to apply the changes.
      Notes:
      • Ensure the hostname you use has a matching A record pointing back to the IP address.

      • PTR records may take some time to propagate.

      • If the PTR option isn’t available or you're unsure which hostname to use, feel free to contact our support team for assistance.
