Reverse DNS (RDNS), also known as a PTR record, maps your server's IP address to a hostname. To configure RDNS, you must have a VPS or dedicated server hosted with HostAfrica.
A correctly configured RDNS record improves your server's reputation and helps ensure emails are delivered successfully instead of being marked as spam.
Go to: Login - HOSTAFRICA
Use your client account credentials to log in.
2. Navigate to Your Services
- Click on Your Service, for example, 'Virtual Private Server'
On the new page, locate your server/VPS from the list and click on “Active” or “Manage” beside it.

- On the service management page, look for the option “Manage Reverse DNS” in the sidebar or under the server management actions.
- Click on it to proceed.

Add PTR Record
Click “Add PTR”.
From the dropdown, select the IP address or server you wish to configure the RDNS for.
Enter the hostname you would like to map to the IP (e.g., my.testmail.com).
Click “Confirm” to apply the changes.

Ensure the hostname you use has a matching A record pointing back to the IP address.
PTR records may take some time to propagate.
If the PTR option isn’t available or you're unsure which hostname to use, feel free to contact our support team for assistance.
