Steps to Add a PTR Record via the Client Portal
To effectively set up Reverse DNS (RDNS) or PTR records, which involve mapping an IP address to a hostname, it's
crucial to have a VPS or server hosted on HostAfrica.

This process is vital for enhancing email deliverability and

improving the server's reputation.

By ensuring that your domain's IP address is correctly associated with its hostname, you can significantly reduce the likelihood of emails from your server being marked as spam or blocked by recipient mail servers.

  1. Log In to the HOSTAFRICA Client Portal
    Go to: Login - HOSTAFRICA
Use your client credentials to log in.

Navigate to Your Services

    1. Click on Your Service, for example, 'Virtual Private Server'

  • On the new page locate your server/VPS from the list and click on “Active” or “Manage” beside it.

Manage Reverse DNS (PTR)

  • On the service management page, look for the option “Manage Reverse DNS” in the sidebar or under the server management actions.

  • Click on it to proceed.

Add PTR Record

  • Click “Add PTR”.

  • From the dropdown, select the IP address or server you wish to configure the RDNS for.

  • Enter the hostname you would like to map to the IP (e.g., my.testmail.com).

  • Click “Confirm” to apply the changes.

Notes:
  • Ensure the hostname you use has a matching A record pointing back to the IP address.

  • PTR records may take some time to propagate.

  • If the PTR option isn’t available or you're unsure which hostname to use, feel free to contact our support team for assistance.
