Removing Blocked IPs from the CSF Firewall (WHM Root Access)

If you or your client's IP address gets blocked by the CSF firewall, it’s often due to repeated failed login attempts (e.g., to cPanel, webmail, FTP, SSH, or email authentication). Here's how to identify and unblock the IP.

Step 1: Check if Your IP Is Blocked

Visit the following link from the affected device to check your public IP address:
https://ip.hostafrica.com

Step 2: Regain Access to WHM

If your IP is blocked and you cannot access WHM:

  • Connect using an alternative network, such as a mobile hotspot or VPN, to log into WHM.

Step 3: Unblock the IP in CSF
  1. Log in to WHM as root.

  2. In the top-left search bar, type and select:
    “ConfigServer Security & Firewall”
    (or simply search for “Firewall”)

3. Scroll down to the Quick Unblock section.

  • Paste the blocked IP address into the field.

  • Click “Quick Unblock” to remove it from the block list.

Tip: To prevent the same IP from being blocked again, scroll to the Quick Allow section and add the IP there. This will whitelist it.

Only be sure to whitelist trusted IPs

Additional Notes:
  • Avoid repeated failed login attempts to prevent future blocks.

  • Always ensure your client uses correct credentials for email, FTP, and control panel logins.

  • For automation or recurring false positives, review CSF's LF_TRIGGER and block thresholds in the configuration settings.
