How to Set Up Your HMail Emails in Outlook Classic

This guide will walk you through adding your HostAfrica email account to Microsoft Outlook Classic.

Does your Outlook look different?
You may be using the newer version of Outlook.
Please refer to our New Outlook Setup Guide instead.

Before You Begin
Make sure you have the following ready, as guided here
how to create a HMailPlus email account from the client area:
  • Your full email address (e.g. you@yourdomain.com)
  • Your email account password
Step 1: Open Outlook Classic and click File in the top-left corner.
Step 2: Click Account Settings.
Step 3: Select Manage Profiles.

⚠️ Important: We strongly recommend using this method to add your account. Using other methods may cause configuration issues.
Step 4: Click Email Accounts
Step 5: Make sure you're on the Email tab, then click New.
Step 6: Select Manual setup or additional server types, then click Next.
Step 7: Choose POP or IMAP, then click Next.
Step 8: Enter the following details:

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)smtp.hmailplus.com
User NameYour full email address
PasswordYour mailbox password
⚠️ Do not check "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)".
Once all fields are filled in, click More Settings before proceeding.
Step 9: Go to the Outgoing Server tab and check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication". Then select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".

⚠️ Note: Set the encryption type first before changing the port numbers — changing the encryption dropdown can reset the port to a default value.

Once done, click OK.

Step 11: Back on the account setup screen, click Next to test your settings.
Step 12: If both tests show a green tick (✓), your account has been configured successfully.

Click Close.

If a test fails: Check that your email address, password, and server details were entered correctly.
You may also need to close and reopen Outlook, then try again.
